Like its big sibling, Forge, Weld is made from a heathered blend of 70% U.S. Merino (sourced in Colorado and New Mexico), and 30% U.S. Corriedale (sourced in New York) wool. Weld is a well-balanced three-ply yarn, with a slightly more energetic twist for strength and durability. It has a beautiful balance of stitch definition, bounce, and wooly, cohesive bloom that produces both beautiful stockinette fabrics and delicate lace, texture, and brioche, and is perfect for stranded colorwork. Weld blooms beautifully and easily knits up on larger needles; we like it on anywhere from a US 3 to a US 6 (3.25 to 4.00 mm), depending on the application.
Weld is spun at Battenkill Valley Fibers in Greenwich, New York, and dyed at Caledonian Dyeworks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Weld is a lovely, springy fingering weight that feels like it's spun with an injection of air! It creates cables with wonderful definition but at the same time delicate and so light in the hand to knit, as well as the finished fabric. It has some texture without being "hairy" and certainly soft enough for me to wear right next to my skin. |
If you are looking for a fingering weight yarn that provides amazing stitch definition for lace work, cables, or any other textured knits, this is the perfect yarn for you! Even before blocking, the fabric is beautiful and the stitch definition is clear and crisp. Weld, like Forge, feels so light and airy! I love the fact that you can create a garment or an accessory that won't weigh you down. It comes in so many gorgeous, rich colors and you don't have to alternate skeins when knitting! That's a nice treat! And did I mention how soft this yarn is? Just wonderfully squishy!! |
