Forge is made from a heathered blend of 70% U.S. Merino (sourced in Colorado and New Mexico), and 30% U.S. Corriedale (sourced in New York) wool. Forge is a round, well-balanced three-ply yarn. It has a beautiful balance of stitch definition, bounce, and wooly, cohesive bloom that produces both beautiful stockinette fabrics and eye-popping cables. Forge is fabulous in sweaters, hats, mitts, cowls, and even large-format shawls, and knits up happily on needles in the US 6 - 8 (4.00 mm to 5.00 mm) range.
Forge is spun at Battenkill Valley Fibers in Greenwich, New York, and dyed at Caledonian Dyeworks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Forge is yummy! It has a wonderful bouncy feel and it's lovely to knit, feels great on the needle and no splitting or unevenness. It has a loft to the finished fabric as if it's pumped full of air. The stitch definition is wonderful, the cables just pop! It creates a warm fabric that's lightweight and I have no trouble wearing it next to my skin. So far no piling and it's wearing well. I love the colors! They have subtle heathers and deep colors with lots of interest. |
I have never ever knitted with a yarn that is so light and springy. It weighs nothing and yet packs a punch when it comes to warmth. You could make sweaters or garments that are warm yet don't weigh a ton on or feel bulky. And did I mention the stitch definition?!!! Cables and lace patterns literally pop from the knitted garment. I even think you could get away with not blocking! Gasp! Also... no alternating skeins, which is wonderful! Get your yarn from the same dye lot and you're golden! And boy are those colors gorgeous! |
