Spun in a New Hampshire mill, this 100% virgin wool yarn is a classic woolen-spun 2-ply worsted weight yarn. The fleece is dyed-in-the-wool to maximize brightness and fastness. Several colors are blended together before the carding process to create the beautiful heather mixes that these yarns are known for.

This yarn is light and airy, yet warm. It is exceptional for knit sweaters, cardigans, and accessories. It's also a perfect choice for stranded colorwork, cables, textured stitches, as well as simple stockinette.

The wool is a blend of an Australian fine wool and a hearty New Zealand wool that gives the yarn its luster.

Highland is spun more tightly on the spinning frames (higher turns per inch) so it is highly durable and will wear better and better every year. Don’t let the crunch fool you. It will soften over time and will become a favorite sweater or accessory.

Right away I think Highland is softer, not as sticky and slightly less structured than Shetland. There is still a bit of a lanolin feel and I actually love the “sheepiness” of it.

It’s super lightweight and will be so warm! A yummy plump, springy yarn and more gentle on the hands while knitting. My swatch blocked beautifully and was really soft.

I’m using it for a colorwork test knit and the more I knit, the softer it gets. It’s described as a “workhorse” that lasts forever and gets better over time and I believe it.

I would love to try it with cables!

This is going to be a favorite I can tell.

Okay... here's the low down on this yarn. It's THE definition of a wooly yarn. But if you have sensitive skin like me... don't write this yarn off just yet!

There is a definite purpose and use for this yarn. It's super lightweight! It's woolen spun hence the light and airy, making it warm without the bulk. It's perfect for outerwear like a sweater or a vest you'll want to wear on top of a tee or turtleneck. I personally wouldn't make a scarf or a cowl out of it (because I know me and my low tolerance for anything itchy), but I would 100% make a sweater or a vest or a hat (because I have hair lol).

The thing to remember is that the yarn will soften over time, so maybe you'll want to speed up the process by washing with a wool wash multiple times before you even wear it for the first time. Because why not? The fibers are such that it will bloom and maintain its shape beautifully. Washing it over and over again won't hurt anything, it'll just speed the process of this workhorse yarn becoming soft.

It's a perfect yarn for all those gorgeous colorwork projects that are out there. The colors are spectacular, a true feast for the eyes. And the price point is crazy good.

So... don't be scared by this workhorse yarn. There's a use for it in your repertoire of knits. If you pick it for the right project, you won't be disappointed.
